The tantric balance of concentration and simplicity makes for a painfully expressive film.

Photographer and director Tobias Hutzler, pulling from the work of Rigolo Swiss Nouveau Cirque artist Maedir Eugster, has created a visually stunning piece that for some reason brings you to the edge of your seat. While exhibiting the balancing skills of a young Dick Grayson, Eugster painstakingly balances 16 palm leaf ribs and a single feather, making for a short film that’s as excruciating as learning about equilibrium in grade 12 Chemistry class. This video has you enthralled and cringing at the intensity of the concentration involved, as you watch weight he holds up with each hand in building his Jacob’s ladder.

Artists are often on the fringes of what we consider to be insane behavior. These literal hand sewn portraits by David Cata are bordering on self-mutilation, but as you know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
