There are often moments when those of us who are relatively design-oriented say “if they just added _____, it would be way better.” Based on their X-Z Chair, design collective Numen/For Use clearly thinks along the same lines.

Just in time for beach season, Australian design collective Numen/For Use developed the X-Z chair to balance the need for shade with the need for a respite from the sand. Of course, sand getting into everything has been a problem for quite a while, but the X-Z Chair adds an element of organization to your sunblock/magazine/sunglass storage issues via a strategically placed series of pockets just below the seat.

An adjustable shade component to the chair adds to its versatility, while also bringing a visual balance. The shade structure appears to be easy to manage and demonstrates the simple elegance of Numen/For Use’s design.
