The constant struggle with sound research is to understand where the established doctrine ends, while locating the spaces where new methodologies can begin. Hiatus Kaiyote has refreshingly studied the reference points and created Tawk Tomahawk.

Technology has opened pandora’s box of music, allowing us to consume music at a clip that can easily influence and guide the popular and underground respective sound[s] one trend at a time. However, Haitus Kaiyote has applied those trends adjacent to the timeless pillars of the popular and obscure and produced one of the best projects I’ve heard in 2012. “Mobius Streak” is a great example of what to expect in terms of composition and structure, but don’t assume that’s their pocket, their range is wide as Kim Kardashian’s rump.
